I use the Daily 5 in my classroom and my class will be learning this song about how to pick a "good fit" book for themselves. I will be posting these items the rest of the summer so I can have them on my blog to access during class.

Treasures Reading Series Poetry Journal by Mrs. Childress

These are poems that correlate to our Treasures reading series. Mrs. Childress has given me permission to post this book. If you want to be able to print the poems go to her site to download them. She also has fabulous ideas for art work to accompany each poem. I used some last year but plan to have the class create the entire journal from week to week this year. Some of the ideas I have read regarding journals is to have the students take them home over the weekend and read the new poem with their parents. I also saw another teacher say that she allows her students to take them out at recess. The children read the poem to others on the playground and have them sign that page. If the child reads it so many times they receive some type of reward. I plan on posting this on my class blog so my students will have access to the poems without having to take their journal home with them. I also will have individuals or the entire class recite some of our favorite poems for the school talent show and parents "Share Day". I thought I would share how the class created a scrapbook to keep all their work in for multicultural week.  These were called "lapbooks" a while ago.  You basically staple folders together to get the pages and pockets.  The class really enjoyed them.  They couldn't wait to take them home at the end of the week.

We are not able to use the internet this week at school due to bandwidth problems and "testing". That means the glog has dropped to the bottom of my "to do" list. I will be making this glog as I have time over the week. My illness has put me behind in all areas of my life!

I wanted to study real frogs and toads with the story in unit 5 week 2 "The Kite".

These are about: 1)Poison Dart Frog-Takes a tadpole up a tree. 2)What Toads Eat 3)How Frogs Jump-This is pretty long and technical. I will probably only show a bit of this one. 4)Tadpoles-Very short video on how tadpoles grow and the difficulties they face.

Be sure to click on the green circle to get to a great art glog. I focused on the theme "Express Yourself" this week. We had a positive reward party on Friday and I had a chance to show the first two of these short shows. I had stressed "Express Yourself" through art, music, dance, and drama during the week. The ballet video fit right into this theme. The second one shows Oliva painting a picture of her brother and pretending that she is a famous artist. These were very cute! I will find time to show them next year since it correlates to the curriculum.

I was creating a glog to place all my favorite art sites to go along with the theme "Express Yourself". The main character, Olivia, visits and art gallery in the story for Unit 5 Week 1 and so I like to focus on art. I am posting this stand alone glog for all the teachers that are ahead of me.
